Buying Your New Home

Excitement, fear, optimism, panic, pride, more panic. For some, buying a home feels like being trapped on a roller coaster of emotions. First time homebuyers usually feel this way most strongly, and it isn't without good reason. But even seasoned homebuyers may sometimes ride a smaller version of the same coaster.

Buying a home is a large investment of time, energy, emotion, and money. It is natural to tie emotions into something that will, quite literally, be a large and central part of your world for the foreseeable future.

When we work with our buyers, our process begins with getting to know you. As with listing a home, no "process" is suitable for everyone and part of what sets us ahead is the time we spend personalizing our approach to your home purchase. Why? Because few things are a reflection of you the way your home is, and what better way to help you select the perfect home than by knowing what that perfect home actually is.

Our main priority with buyers is to educate, inform, and guide you in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident, so that the "downward slopes" of that emotional roller coaster don't affect your process. We have found that when you have someone you trust helping you along the way, the whole journey is just all around better.

Taking care of our buyers begins with a great Plan:

  • The Where/When/Why/How questions:

    • Where are we going? Location, location, location, right?! That is part but not all of the answer to this question. We dial in on the physical location of your ideal home along with what that ideal home must have (and must NOT have!).

    • When do we need to be there? Timelines are an important part of our plan, since buying a home takes time in many ways. The initial process, the search, and then the contract period all take time that we need to plan around to meet your perfect move date.

    • Why are we going? Some wonder why this is so important, but we would go so far as to say this might be the most important question. The motivation behind your move tells us a lot about your priorities, your needs, and how we can simplify your life.

    • How will we get there? Buying a home takes money, and how that money gets from our hands to the sellers' hands is a key part of our process. Whether you are paying cash or plan to finance all or part of your purchase, this is a piece that needs sorted early on.

  • The Search - once we have our plan in place, we can begin our search in earnest. We utilize all of the tools available to us as Real Estate Agents along with a few outside the box.

  • Contract Negotiations - when we find "the house", our expertise in negotiations comes into play and we work to get you the right house under the best terms.

  • Process Management - unfortunately, a sports analogy works best here: we function as your quarterback, managing, coordinating, and executing the purchase process. Our inspector, lender, appraiser, contractors, etc are the players in our offensive line and our job is to make sure everyone executes to get us to the end zone.

  • Closing Day - we shoot, we scorrrre! (ok, that was the last one!) This is the day you actually sign on all of the dotted lines and take ownership of your new home - a celebration day indeed! But this isn't the end of our road together, because you will likely be continuing with one of our other services to help manage your new home. Learn more.
